Email List Growth: Building Discipline and Conversation
Edwin: Beginning of the year
I put down one specific goal.
That I was going to accomplish.
This year.
I wanted to build my email list to 10,000.
And the reason why email list
is important is it's my own.
Platform.
My owned media,
Welcome to Twenty.
Two.
Podcasts mini series that I had launched.
At the end of 2020.
To document.
A hundred X life.
It started off where I declared that
I would a hundred X my business.
In a hundred days.
Now I'm in my third installment.
Um, my 10 year.
Mission to document.
My life, how I manifest
the things that I create.
And the things that I learned.
And in 22.
I'm going to go over the five things.
That I'd learned.
In 20.
20.
Two.
Beginning of the year I
put down one specific goal.
That I was going to accomplish.
This year.
In years past, I would
put a number of things.
On my vision board, which
I did as well this year.
But when it came to KPIs, Goals.
Or anything that I want
to accomplish this year.
I focus down to one thing that
allowed me to have a guiding
principle of what to do next.
Now, one thing was building my email list.
I wanted to build my email list to 10,000.
Large.
Starting with.
Uh, modest email is about 800 people.
And the reason why.
Email.
list is important is it's my own.
Platform.
My owned media, like my Website, which is
an informative website and people could
get there, but getting people onto your
email list allows you to continually
have a conversation with those out there.
Really to share with those who Trusted me.
To give me their email address,
whether they were signing up.
For an offer for a newsletter
or anything, and they wanted to.
Be connected with me.
Through email.
It is the biggest source of
revenue for those who understand.
Building a community.
And building an audience.
So this year, I've focused.
attracting those.
To sign up, whether it was a free hundred
day course Or some webinars when it came
to summer nights or my five day boot camp.
On my life cohorts and I
created a lot this year.
Within the podcast sphere for
those to join me on my email list.
And it was great.
What was very interesting.
And what I learned a lot was building
the discipline to do a weekly newsletter.
You have to have a system,
you have to have a process.
And as it started to
flow, I started creating.
And people started expecting emails,
and I'm just like, Hey, here I am again.
And it's great.
You could have a continual
conversation with those.
versus having an email list and only
emailing when you have an offer.
And it's like, Ugh,
Edwin's, just emailing.
Cause there's an offer.
But if I'm always continually
, sharing my life, sharing my
story, sharing my conversations.
And I'll say PS.
I have an offer coming up.
Let me know if you're interested.
Without disrupting the email
newsletter, the weekly newsletter.
I really learned.
How to manage an email
newsletter, not the cm.
An expert.
But I'm definitely in the discipline.
being within the newsletter
being in creation.
And the toughest part is, is
getting that initial email address.
Well, how did you get that email
address of your ideal customer?
The person that you want to serve, the
person that you want to create with.
Started thinking about customer journey.
And this is also with Slingshot and
podcasts is like, what are they expecting?
What are the pains that
they're looking for?
What do they desire in life?
And how.
Can you make that journey?
As delightful as possible.
Right.
Everything from discovery of your offer.
To giving the email address.
To what they receive to setting
expectation to welcoming them.
Two.
Providing an over-delivering
what, whatever they signed up for.
And then ask him for permission.
To continue the conversation.
On the newsletter.
So I start thinking about how
would I want to be received?
How do I.
Build trust with a marketer
with someone out there.
And.
One thing I realized
going through this year.
,
learning.
And focusing on the email newsletter is.
That email address, the
trust someone gave to you.
It's you cannot take it for granted.
You cannot forget about it.
Because it's so hard to get it originally.
And then you can just
use it to sell things.
You know, with someone meets you
on the street and you're like, Hey.
Why don't we get together for a
coffee and I could share with this.
The next step is get
together for a coffee.
It's not to start texting
them, offers that you have a.
So what is that journey?
How did you gain that trust?
And really learning and using the tools.
The email marketing tools that
allow you to build that confidence.
We don't being in those tools and
I'll get more into tools later, but
you could really rank and understand
the audience, what they're vibing
to within your email newsletter.
And to re iterate.
These are people who may
have never heard of you.
Landed on an offer.
A page discovered you, you had a very
good compelling offer that they gave you.
Their email address.
I'm taking.
Everything I've learned everything I've
experienced within email newsletters
with that within launching things.
And understanding.
Oh, If it takes this much work.
To build.
An email list.
A thriving community.
Thriving.
Engaged.
Audience.
You could do the same
thing for higher offers.
So as I go to 2023, I'm
just upgrading my offer.
And coming correct.
I launched and launched.
I launched this year.
So as I launched and I got better
at launching, I'm like, you
know what, I'm going to make.
The customer journey.
Impeccable.
So those who want to pay and feel up then.
Pro understand the pain
they'll do it right.
You know, what's the difference between.
Uh, Kia and a Mercedes, right?
Like it's to get that
customer and charge more.
It's just the same.
Right.
And you're just talking different things.
One thing I've learned this year.
Well building an audience.
Whether it was doing.
Email outreach for Slingshot.
Building sequences.
Creating email personas.
Getting email addresses.
I got really good at email outreach.
And as I end this year reaching out.
To some industry experts.
In the podcasting world.
It was very enlightening.
Because people responded.
People agreed to what I was doing.
People wanted to take part.
So understanding and building
confidence of doing reach-outs.
And knowing that there's millions and
millions and millions of people out there.
Um, it's, it's amazing when
they, when they connect.
And they meet you and you're
building your network.
So as I go into 2023.
To continually build my audience.
I'm doing it to the power of email,
through the power of conversation with.
Podcasts.
And lastly with Slingshot.
Through the power of
real-time communications.
And the next episode.
I talk about staying on the edge.
Pushing boundaries, personal boundaries.
To continually grow.
To feel the fear.
And to be alive.
